Western Cape MEC of Transport and Public Works Robin Carlisle has opposed a national plan to enforce a zero limit on drinking and driving.

Carlisle said the plan will not work as many countries have tried and failed.

Carlisle said the country does not have a structure in place to manage and enforce such a law.

MEC Carlisle said they do not test people that they stop in roadblocks. There’s been no effort outside this province to try and curb down drunken drivers.

Meanwhile Department of Social Development Ministerial Spokesperson Lumka Oilphant said the proposal still needs to be presented to cabinet and then made public for comment, before it can be signed into law.

Oilphant added people in the in the government will participate in the draft bill.
