Home Affairs Minister Pandor presented budget vote in Parliament

Minister of Home Affairs Naledi Pandor presented the Home Affairs budget vote in Parliament on Thursday. 

Pandor said one the department’s challenges since 2009 has been trying to eliminate duplicate ID’s. 

The Minister added that the department has taken a hard stance against corruption. 

Pandor said that 9 officials were arrested on suspicion of corruption.

“We support all efforts directed at eradicating corruption” the Minister added.

Minister Pandor also said some of the department’s priorities is to register all births within 30 days, enhance security by creating relaiable National Population Register and supporting national security together with the security cluster. 

Minister Pandor spoke about some of the other projects, including developing a South African citizenship database and a secure identity for the people.

“I believe we will have succeeded in this when we have birth registration is the only point of entry to our national population register” Pandor reiterated.
