Several fires in Cape Town left one person dead and 36 injured

A fire which ripped through Phillippi, Delft, Mfuleni, Elsies river and Khayelitsha through the weekend left one person dead and over 30 injured. 

The causes of the fires in these area is believed to have been an illegal electrical fault and leaving candles burning.

Disaster Risk Management Spokesperson Wilfred Solomons-Johannes said 36 people lost their homes in the fires and 140 people were left displaced.

Johannes added that the fire in Phillippi one adult male sustained fatal burn wound and his body was recovered on the scene by emergency services personnel's. 

The public has again been urged to exercise cautuion when dealing with candles or heaters.
