Eastern Cape police have confirmed that a 24-year-old teacher who allegedly raped a minor could be suspended as a teacher.

The suspect appeared in the Dutywa Magistrate Court on Friday for a bail application which he was denied.

It is alleged that the teacher raped the minor in bushes in the area.  The Provincial Department of Education has also launched its own probe into the matter.

Police Spokesperson Captain Jackson Manatha said the accused appeared in court last Friday where he was pleading for the bail application.

“Unfortunately the court needed the evidence of the investigative officer, the case was postponed until 25th October and the accused remained in custody,” Manatha added.
