Western Cape MEC of Transport and Public Works Robin Carlisle said the launch of the Average Speed Over Distance camera network will help in speeding arrests and decrease deaths on the roads. MEC Carlisle launched the third phase of the ASOD on Sunday.

Through the network the death rate has decreased from 86 in 2011 to 38 by the end of 2012 and 21 so far in 2013.

Ministerial Spokesperson Siphesihle Dube said they think that it will be a successful program.

Dube added that they are planning in the near future to expand the ASOD system on further to the rest of the dangerous roads in the province.
