Western Cape MEC of Community
Safety Dan Plato has strongly condemned the shooting of a police officer in
Mitchel’s Plain.
Warrant Officer Herman Prince was
shot at a petrol station in Rocklands and was rushed to the nearest hospital.
MEC Plato said in a statement
that those who dare to challenge the saps and put the safety of the people of
this province in jeopardy will be caught.
Police suspect it was a pre-meditated and
deliberate attack, because the officer was in civilian clothes at the time.
Ministerail Spokesperson Ewald
Botha said MEC Plato commends the South African Police Service for their swift
response which led to an apprehending of four suspects in connection with the
crime.
“MEC Plato feels that this brazen
attack, in broad daylight and in full view of the police officer’s
granddaughter is a total disregard for both their lives, warrants that those
responsible face the full might of the law,” Botha added.
