South Africa could face a total cost of over R8 billion for the construction of five new stadiums and the renovation of a further five in preparation for the 2010 Soccer World Cup.
The original estimate of costs made was R2.3 billion, but costs have now soared up to four times more than in 2004.
According to The Cape Times, the 2010 Local Organising Committee said that it expected parliament to pass a legislation to enable the payment of funds.
The construction of the five stadiums could start in the new year.
