ANC demands apology – UMD refuses

The African National Congress demands an apology from United Democrats Movement, for accusing it of responsibility in the shooting of Stellenbosch Deputy Mayor Shubani.

"The ANC is recklessly accused by the UDM," says Provincial Secretary of the ANC, Mcebisi Skawatsha. A UDM member will appear in the Stellenbosch Magistrate Court tomorrow, charged with the shooting.

The UDM is not planning to give the demanded apology. "We have never accused the ANC of being responsible for the shooting in Stellenbosch," says spokesperson of the UDM, Bogani Maqungwana. "We have only said that there should be a police investigation. That doesn’t mean that the ANC is behind the shooting of the deputy Mayor."
