Chapman’s Peak drive which has been closed since July will stay closed under further notice. This is due to the amount of heavy rainfall that’s caused unstable mountain slopes, debris slides and rock fall along the route.
In a press statement released by Entlini Operations (Pty)Ltd, the company that operates and maintains Chapman’s Peak Drive they cannot open the road if they feel the safety of road users will be compromised.
“At this point we are not seeing the drive open within the next month, nor are we sure by the end of November, but we are looking at the December month,” says Operation Manager of Entilini Operations (Pty)Ltd, Mark Jacobs.
The company says that they have already started action to the remedial measures, and that includes stabilising slopes by means of drape mesh and rock bolts and the reinforcement of catch fences at certain areas .
