Tourism minister Martinus van Schalkwyk will meet the Tourism Business Council of South Africa (TBCSA for short) at their annual general meeting on Wednesday.
This will form part of the tourism ministry’s engagement with the tourism private sector.
The aim of the session is also for members of the sector, to share with the Minister their forecast on the future of the sector in the country and what actions need to be taken to address the resulting challenges and opportunities.
The ministry has been conducting national consultative road shows, enabling the industry to interact with them.
In an exclusive telephone interview with the station, Ms Kagiso Mosue of the council, said the minister will join them at the meeting which will also mark the election of a new board for the council.
“This year the members will be electing a new board, and we are fortunate that we have also secured the minister to be part of the proceedings,” she said.
She further said the Chief Executive of the TBCSA, Mmatšatši Marobe will deliver the feedback in the form of a presentation during this engagement.
Mosue concluded that the private sector input during the meeting with the Minister will be based on a TBCSA strategic workshop document.
“The document reviewed the 1996 Tourism White Paper and the draft Tourism Growth Strategy developed by the Department of Environmental Affairs and Tourism in 2008,” she said.
