South African Police’s National Commissioner Bheki Cele says he is satisfied with the way in which police conducted operations throughout the country to ensure a safe and secure festive season.
He says some one-thousand-and-97 suspects have been arrested for various crimes.
Cele says a number of criminals who had eluded police were caught in the operations.
One of the most successful tools used by police were hundreds of road blocks countrywide.
Despite Cele’s satisfaction, the start to 2010 has not been without violence.
A 33-year-old policeman was arrested for shooting dead his neighbour in KwaBhokweni, near White River in Mpumalanga.
The policeman visited a neighbour where an argument broke out after alcohol had been consumed
