At the Nersa hearing in Rustenburg today the trade union Solidarity says will make several proposals regarding Eskom’s application for an annual tariff increase of 35% over the next three years.
In terms of Solidarity’s proposals, the current application cannot be approved and alternatives should rather be considered.
In a statement released yesterday, the union says is offering several workable suggestions, including that the principle of a general percentage increase should be discarded.
Furthermore, Solidarity is placing pressure on Nersa to better regulate the current implementation of Eskom increases, which are passed on to consumers by municipalities, in order to ensure that the eventual effect of the increase on consumers is reduced.
