A case of attempted murder has been opened at the Muizinberg police station after a 33 year old taxi driver and a 21 year old bystander were shot yesterday in Vrygrond Avenue.
Police spokesperson Captain Stephen Knapp says the incident is not gang related.
Knapp however confirmed that there is rivalry between taxis that are operating in the area.
Knapp says the situation at Vrygrond is still tense and taxis are operating but not in Vrygrond.
“Taxis are operating but not within the Vrygrond area and we are monitoring the situation here at the scene,” Knapp said.
Knapp says there are issues between two rival groupings within the taxi industry but says that is not in their hands to control.
One taxi operator speaking on grounds of anonymity said he is pleased with the police presence.
“We are happy police came and make sure the situation is calm,” said the taxi driver.
“No arrests have been made in the attempted murder of yesterday and currently nobody has been arrest either today at the scene,” added Knapp.
