A 42 year-old man was arrested for allegedly kidnapping his one month old baby in Leonsdale, Elsies River at the weekend.
It is alleged that on Friday, the mother went to report an inicident at the Elsies River police station after an argument between her and the suspect.
Police say while she was at the station the suspect forcefully removed the baby from the grandparents home at Bristol Close in Leonsdale, Elsies River.
Spokesperson Pierre Jordaan says later, when he did not return with the baby, the complainant informed the police and a kidnapping case was opened.
“An intense search and investigation process was launch immediately to locate the baby by Elsies River detectives in conjunction with other police units,” says Jordaan.
Jordaan says shortly thereafter police recived the whereabouts of the baby and police recovered the baby safely at a house in Leonsdale,
The suspect will appear in the Goodwood Magistrates’ Court today on kidnapping charges.
