Murdered CPUT student identified

Murdered Cape Peninsula University of Technology (formerly Cape Technikon) student has been identified as Masoa Pheello.

24 year-old Pheello from a small township called Mokodumela, nearby Lesotho in the Free State was gunned down Friday afternoon at the corners of High and Searl Streets in Woodstock.

Police say the suspect who is still at large, confronted three boys, aged between 14 and 16 at gunpoint at Melbourn Street where he robbed them of their cellphones before approching the deceased.

The suspect then went further down in Searl Street and under a bridge, he robbed two (2) more women from their cellphones.

The Suspect fled the scene on foot and is still at large.

CPUT spokesperson Thami Nkwanyane confirmed that Pheello was a Mechanical Engineering student since 2007 and that his family was traced and aware of their loss.

Investigations on the armed robbery and murder case continue.
