Paramedics say two men in their 30s were rescued after jumping from the Vaal Dam Bridge early this morning.
ER24’s Werner Vermaak says the first man was found clinging to a tree, while the second was found hours later unharmed lower down the Vaal River.
There were fears earlier that the second man may have drowned. Vermaak could not confirm reports that the pair had been dared to jump.
Vermaak warned the public to be extra careful when in the vicinity of the Vaal Dam after heavy rains last week left it more than 100-percent full.
Fourteen sluice gates were opened at the bridge on Friday, releasing two-million litres of water per second.
