Basic Education Minister Angie Motshekga says schools are ready to tackle the 2011 academic year.
Motshekga and other officials at the Department visited schools in Gauteng today to assess their readiness.
She said her Department has made great strides in key areas including the production and distribution of learner workbooks as well as Annual National Assessments for Grades three, six and nine.
Meanwhile, two teenagers have been arrested for allegedly burning down the headmaster’s office at a Free State high school.
The young men, aged 18 and 19, are expected to appear in the Botshabelo Magistrate’s Court tomorrow on charges of arson.
It is believed that they are angry at not being promoted to a higher Grade this year.
