Lusanda Bill

An energy expert says reduced demand caused by the economic downturn is the main reason the country has not had power blackouts since 2008.
Electrical engineer Piet van Staden told the Africa Electricity 2011 convention in Sandton that Eskom would not be able to prevent blackouts and load-shedding in the next three years.
The new plants Medupi and Kusile are not scheduled to increase supply for several years.
Van Staden added that only protection on the demand side might help prevent load-shedding should the economy start growing.
