The Commission for Gender Equality has welcomed the judgement handed down to Jaco Steyn, Gauteng’s so-called Sunday Rapist.
Steyn was handed five life sentences plus 175 years in the High Court sitting in Alberton.
He was convicted on more than 30 charges, including the murder of schoolgirl Louise de Waal.
Commission spokesperson Silvia Stevens say the sentence will send a strong message that the Sexual Offences Act and other laws are being taken seriously by the criminal justice system.
