The African Christian Democratic Party said it questions whether sufficient research was done in SAA strategy.
ACDP Parliamentary Leader Wayne
Thring said while they welcome ventures to turn around the financial state SAA
is currently faced with, court challenges and accusations that government’s
bailout for SAA resulted in a number of commercial airlines shutting its doors,
portrays governments’ strategic ability to better the airline’s state in a bad
light.
Thring said one has seen over the
years that there has been an increase in the number of bailouts.
“Last year the bailout received from
SAA of some R1.25 billion and national treasury has set aside some R5 billion
as a grantee now this has had the unintended consequence” Thring added.
