The congress of the South African trade unions in the North West province on Monday said that are disappointed with the manner in which the Kgetleng Municipality responded to the notice to hold a protest action at the most expensive toll in the country last weekend.

Provincial secretary Solly Phetoe said that the Kgetleng municipality failed to convene a meeting, as is required by section 4 of the regulations of gatherings act but instead chose to prohibit Cosatu from continuing with the action.

Phetoe said Cosatu has been making application for the protest action against the Swartragens Toll gate and this is not for the first time that the application has been denied.

Phetoe added that the first time the union applied had agreed to all the conditions but the municipality refuses to grant that permission.
