The Democratic Alliance on Sunday said that they are concerned by alleged reports that National Police commissioner, Riah Phiyega, wants former head of state Crime Intelligence Unit, Richard Mduli back on the job.

This follows months of rumours that Mduli is heading back to the unit despite allegations of murder and corruption around the looting of the crime intelligence slush found at massive personal gain.

DA MP of police Dianne Kholer Barnard said it is high time that Commissioner Phiyega answered to Parliament on the Mdluli saga and the chaos in the Crime Intelligence Unit.

I have written to the Chairperson of the Portfolio Committee on Police to request that the National Police Commissioner appear before the committee to explain exactly what is going on in the Crime Intelligence Unit and what disciplinary action has been taken against Mdluli, if any at all,” Barnard added.

Barnard further added that Richard Mdluli has been on suspension for well over a year and has yet to face any disciplinary proceedings as far as she knows.
