The Western Cape Health Minister Theuns Botha said that the current pressures at provincial health facilities across the service platform, not only at hospitals and emergency centres are real.

Botha said there is always tension between the escalating demand for services and the available resources.

Shortage of beds is always relative to demands on the service.

Ministerial Spokesperson Helene Rossouw said MEC Botha said that the Western Cape health facilities are under immense pressure and that the facilities were not design for many patients as they experiencing at the moment and there is a major migration from other provinces into the Western Cape.

Meanwhile the African Christian Democratic Party in the Western Cape said the reasons the hospitals are so under pressure in the province is because of insufficient budgeting.

ACDP Provincial Leader Ferlon Christians said the department needs to deal with this urgently.  Christians said they believe it is bad planning and they must provide a budget.
