WCED: Xhosa to be introduced in Grade 1 in 2014

The Department of Basic Education has issued the draft policy on the introduction of African languages. 

The Western Cape Department of Education Spokesperson Millicent Merton said this draft policy will be piloted in Grade 1 in 2014 in a selection of schools in all provinces. 

Merton said the WCED will implement the project to about 10 to 20 schools situated in the metro education district in 2014. The following resources will be made available to all schools involved this will includes 1st additional language Xhosa learner workbooks and the WCED will provide qualified teachers to these schools.

Merton added that contract post will be advertised soon in a vacancy list.
