Reports state that helicopters belonging to the South African Police Service Air Wing have been grounded for months.

Not allowing for it to be used as a valuable crime fighting resource.

A few weeks ago 15 of the 37 helicopters were said to be waiting for routine inspection, followed by reports that a further three were in Cape Town waiting on repairs.

The DA’s Shadow Minister of Police Dianne Kohler Barnard said that  each of these helicopters cost between R 15 – 20 million.

This could mean that nearly R 300 million worth of crime fighting equipment is not being used to keep South African citizens safe.
