Members of Parliament’s basic salary could soon rise to close on nine thousand-Rands per year.

This is if the President accepts the five-and-a-half-percent recommended salary increase.

The salary does not include a range of perks including travel allowances, numerous flights, pension, medical aid and virtually free accommodation in Cape Town when Parliament is in session.

The recommended salary increase for all public office bearers was announced by the Independent Commission for the Remuneration of Public Office Bearers.
