WCED starts to register children

On Monday the Western Cape Education Department started registering 39 out of the 83 children from Wallacedene.

This comes after a media organisation reported last week that parents claimed the schools in the area is too full.

The department’s spokesperson Paddy Atwell said of the 83 children, 53 are of school going age and 30 should be attending pre-school.

He added that there are a number of reasons why the learners are not at school, like some not being from the Western Cape.

Atwell said some of the learners did attend school in the area and left for the Eastern Cape and returned, some say recently.

He added that none of them had documentation at all, either ID documents or previous school records.

The department will be accepting the learners into schools and departmental officials will work with the schools concerned to obtain the records and the paperwork required.
