A judgment handed down by the South Gauteng High Court last week has determined that grandparents no longer qualify for foster child grants.

Paula Proudlock of the Children's Institute says there are approximately thirty-five-thousand orphans currently living with relatives who are receiving the foster child grant.

The majority of these relatives are grandparents.

She says the judgment will most likely lead to grandparents losing their grant money once care orders are reviewed
