The Policing forum in the Western Cape has also expressed their support in the initiative.

It is said that the availability of this information will help police to co-ordinate search and recovery operations when a child is reported missing.

The information will be kept in a database but the actual certificate will be kept in the possession of the child’s parents.

Chairperson for the provinces community policing board, Hanif Loonat said they often find children roaming the streets late at night, because of parent’s negligence.

He added that taking finger prints of children will help them return lost or missing children fast and safely to their parents
