Two learners at Oaklands High School were hospitalised on Monday after they were shot and wounded by a fellow pupil.

It is alleged that the learner brought the gun in school.

The two learners are in critical but stable condition in hospital.

Police Spokesperson Andre Traut said the 14 year-old boy was arrested and he appeared in court today.

Provincial Education Ministry Spokesperson Bronagh Casey said the principal was not aware that the learner had a brought the weapon with him to school.

Casey said had the principal been informed, he would have taken the necessary steps, because principals have the authority to conduct a search and seizure exercise when there are reports of dangerous weapons within the school.
