North West Premier Thandi Modise on Thursday said illegal sub-letting of state farms causes conflict among emerging farmers.

Modise was told this during a meeting with representatives of the African Farmers Association of South Africa this week.

The premier is expected to engage with farmers organizations about illegal game farms. Unproductive and underutilized leased state farms and resale of land acquired by emerging farmers through the ELRAD programme.

Priemer Modise spokesperson Lesiba Kgwele said the Premier has welcomed the establishment of district land reform committees, as they will serve as a representative for transparent mechanisms to assist the land reform beneficiary selection process, prevent corruption and looting of state resources.

“Premier Modise said that the North West as an agricultural province is positioning itself as a food basket for the country and the rest of the continent” Kgwele added.
