Policing in the country has come under the
spotlight in recent months.
Issues relating to senior police officials
being involved in corruption and the Farlam Commission of Inquiry into the
Marikana tragedy came under the spotlight.
The
state of policing in South Africa has been described
as a crisis.
Institute for Security Studies Johan Burger
said lots of questions are being asked now about police leadership on the one
hand about the use of force in the police service about the ability of the public
order police unit and also the ability of the police in general to effectively fight
crime.
Burger adds that police in many ways are
facing a crises and Burger also says the police are in a number of ways trying
to deal with issues.
Burger said he feels that solutions to the
issues are not easy, are not simple and hopefully the new leadership will be
able to address it in this year.
