It has been reported today that the ANC took a resolution at its elective conference in Mangaung last year to introduce a tax on graduates.

The South African Student Congress has confirmed that the ANC did agree on the resolution.
Sasco said they have some issues about the resolution but said they are in favour of a general levy that would see high income earners paying more.

Sasco President Ngoako Selamolela explains that Sasco’s explanation is that graduates cannot just be taxed for the sake of being graduates, they need to be taxed on the basis that as emerging that a lot of money out of the skills they’ve got.

Selamolela says it should be instituted for every worker depending on their skills.
