The gang-rape of a 17 year old girl in Bredasdaorp has raised a public outcry.

The incident happened last week Saturday.

Three men have been arrested.

The United Democratic Movement Women Organisation said harsher sentences need to impose on convicted criminals.

UDEMWO Secretary General Thandi Nontenja said that South Africa is the highest ain the world as far as sexual violence against women.

“We were hopeful that with a female police commissioner, sexual offence violence would be higher up on the list of South African Police Services priority list” Nontenjana said.

Nontenjana added that they call upon the state to make a difference in this regard.
