Three suspects were arrested for armed robbery by the Nseleni Crime Prevention members.

The suspects aged between 18 and 24-years-old entered a shop, and at gunpoint robbed the shop owner of an undisclosed amount of cash and cigarettes.

The three appeared in the Empangeni Magistrate court today on charges of business robbery and possession of an unlicensed firearm.

KwaZulu Natal Police Spokesperson Captain Thulani Zwane said the officers were patrolling around the area when they received information about an alleged supermarket being robbed.

“The members proceeded to the scene and managed to arrest three suspects who were found inside the shop.

“It is alleged that tone suspect produced a firearm and threatened to shoot the police members, the members returned fire and wounded one suspect on his leg” Zwane added
