Nelson Mandela remains in a critical condition in hospital

President Jacob Zuma released a statement saying that Former President Nelson Mandela’s condition has deteriorated and he is now critical.

President Jacob Zuma and ANC deputy president Cyril Ramaphosa visited Mandela on Sunday night.

Presidential spokesperson Mac Maharaj said they were brifed by the medical team on the former President’s condition had been become critical over the past 24 hours.

Maharaj further said they also met Nelson Mandela`s wife Graca Machel and discussed his condition.

Meanwhile Presidential spokesperson Mac Maharaj said both President Jacob Zuma and ANC deputy president Cyril Ramaphosa, were assured by the doctors that when the ambulance transporting former President Mandela to hospital on the 8th of June developed engine problems, all care was taken to ensure that his medical condition was not compromised. 

Maharaj said there were seven doctors in the convoy who had full control of the situation throughout the period.
He also said the doctors have disputed the media reports that Mandela had suffered a cardiac arrest, there is not truth in that, because there he had extra medical care.
