The Democratic Alliance has called on the Minister of International Relations and Cooperation Maite Nkoana Mashabane to distance herself and the government from Cosatu’s planned anti-Obama demonstrations.

Cosatu’s international relations secretary, Bongani Masuku said they were particularly disappointed by the Obama administration’s record in continuing the appalling US foreign policy performance.

DA MP of International Relations and Cooperation Ian Davidson said Obama is on a governmental visit and that should be respected not be welcomed with protests that are aimed at scoring political points.

Davidson also said government really needs to sort out itself and hopefully the Minister and her Department will distance from all this.

Ministry Spokesperson Clayson Monyela could not comment on the issue.

Meanwhile the Congress of South African Trade Unions has called upon all its members to protest against Obama coming to South Africa, in their campaign called NoBama campaign.
