MRC and WHO conduct a study of levels of sexual violence

The Medical Research Council together with the World Health Organisation conducted a study regarding levels of sexual violence in the world. 

MRC’s Naeemah Abrahams said the study has shown that one in three woman experience gender based violence globally. 

The study was done with woman 15-years and older. 

Abrahams shares some of the other findings of the report, where intimate partner violence which included sexual and physical violence; they also looked separately at non-partner violence.

“If we looked at intimate partner violence, we can say that 30% of women had experienced physical or physical intimate partner violence.

“This figure is 36,6% for Africa; we also looked at non-partner sexual violence which was 7.2% and for Africa this was 11.9%” Abrahams added.
