The African Christian Democratic Party said the biggest challenge facing the youth is lack of opportunity for employment.
ACDP MP Cheryllyn Dudley said the
Sectors for Education and Training Authorities created some years ago to
address issues of skills development, have not had the impact envisioned or
required and adding insult to injury SETA’s continue to under-spend their
budget.
“Our country needs artisans like
plumbers and electricians and in a developing country we need engineers too” Dudley added.
ACDP MP Cheryllyn Dudley emphasized
that clearly the country has not done enough to convince and fund young people
to get the education and skills needed to qualify as artisans and engineers
among other things.
“The greater investment is going to
be needed if the youth are going to get a chance that they deserve to escape
and avoid the poverty trap” Dudley
added.
