Western
Cape MEC of Social Development Albert Fritz over 10 157 people access
substance abuse services in the province and the department plans to expand
community-based treatment programmes with a focus on rural areas.
Drugs
have riddled communities in Cape Town for many years.
“This
year our budget that we will spend on substance abuse is R82.6 million and we
are very excited that we can make difference and some interventions going in
the area of substance abuse, specifically in the Cape Flats
We
will also look on continuing to specifically look at our fantastic models like
the school early intervention that we running at about six schools now. We want
to roll that pile up throughout the province and to areas that we have seen in
the rural areas where drug use is also now increasing” Fritz added.
