Mayoral Committee Member for Safety and Security JP Smith said there has been a major improvement in the number of drug related arrests.

Drugs in Cape Town is a growing industry with the City stating that more law enforcement officials have been hired to help combat the problem.

Smith said the city has been able to improve enforcement around drug dealing through improved intelligence driven policing over the last year and specifically in investment in the better training for our staff and the development of relationships with communities in terms of receiving tip-offs and paying informants.

“Over the last five months we have achieved 1 053 drug related arrests which 600 are gang-related” Smith added.
