MEC Fritz calls for better care of elderly people

The Department of Social Development in the province has called on facilities that care for elderly people to ensure that people with the right qualifications are hired to look after elderly people.

MEC of Social Development Albert Fritz said these facilities need to ensure that they hire people with certificates and who are qualified to deal with the senior citizens. 

Fritz also said this is line with the protection of senior citizens.

Ministerial Spokesperson Sihle Ngobese said the department is committed to support old age homes if they comply with the laws and regulations. There is a budget of R 174 million for the 2014/2015 financial year in support of elderly people.
