MEC Plato says safety of children important

Western Cape MEC of Community Safety Dan Plato said drugs, substance abuse awareness, crime prevention, gangsterism prevention and life skills will be some of the activities in workshops organised by the provincial government during the school holidays.

On Thursday the Western Government announced plans it will take to ensure the safety of young people during the June/July school holidays. 

MEC Plato said priority places where these programmes will be executed include Mitchell’s Plain, Nyanga, Gugulethu, Khayelitsha, Hanover Park, Grassy Park, Atlantis and Delft.

“The objectives of these programmes is to build self-esteem among the youth, provide for peer education, prevent gang recruitments and educate our youth on the dangers of alcohol and drugs” Plato added
