Congress of South African Trade Union in the Western Cape said it is still of the view that Metrorail’s increase of ticket prices impose an extra burden on to commuters.

This as the planned Cosatu strike against the increase of fares today was postponed due to Nedlac not issuing the strike certificate for a legally protected strike in advanced.

Metrorail will be increasing ticket prices on the 1st of July 2014.

Cosatu’s Provincial Secretary Tony Ehrenreich said Nedlac is assisting us to meet with the ministry to try and find a solution to the issue of bad train services as well as the increase in train fares.

“The matter of the train strike will continue to be on Cosatu’s agenda as a way to ensure that we can improve and further assist our members concerning this issue” Ehrenreich added.
