The National Sea Rescue Institute volunteers in Port Elizabeth rescued two kite-boarders who were being swept out to sea at Sardinia Bay on Thursday.

The two men aged 21 and 25-years-old were kite-boarding when both their kites failed to airborne due to strong waves.

NSRI Spokesperson Craig Lambinon said when they arrived on scene there was no sign of the boarders but during a search they were both found safely ashore.

Lambinon said they had to abandon their kites and had managed to paddle safely ashore.  Both boarders were not injured in the incident.
