The Congress of the People condemns the ongoing attack on the media by President Jacob Zuma.

COPE says that on the launch of the SABC News channel into Africa, it was no different. President Zuma allegedly repeated that he had never come across media that was as hostile as our country’s media.

COPE accuses President Zuma for attacking the media for not being patriotic and for reporting bad stories about our country.

COPE spokesman Dennis Bloem said the media must be free to report whatever is happening in our country.

Bloem added that we are asking why it is that President Zuma and his government is so determined in getting the media, if they are not doing anything wrong.

“Why is it that they are scared of the media?” Bloem added.

Bloem said we are condemning these attacks with the seriousness it deserves.
