The public is invited to tell parliament what they think ofSouth Africa ’s Chapter 9 institutions. A committee, chaired by Professor Kader Asmal, has been established to investigate the institutions, which are independent, but accountable to Parliament. The institutions under review are:

Human Rights Commission,
Auditor General,
Independent Electoral Commission,
Gender Commission,
Public Service Commission,
Pan South African Language Board,
Financial and Fiscal Commission and
The Commission for the Promotion and
Protection of the Rights of Cultural,
Religious and Linguistic Communities
Speaking to Bush Radio, Asmal said that the work of the committee is democracy in action. He urged members of the public to participate, by letting the committee know if the institutions mentioned above are working for them.
