One miner is still missing after a seismic event weighing 1.7 on the Richter scale occured at the Goldfields Driefontein operation on Saturday.
After the seismic event, a light block fell and trapped the miners. Four men have already been found alive.
"One disappeared, so we’re still searching for the last miner," says spokesperson Lesiba Seshoka of the National Union of Mineworkers. The search for the missing miner continues. Chances of finding him alive are getting slimmer by the pass of time.
The National Union of Mineworkers does not want to release the name of the missing miner, as his family has not been notified yet.
Twelve miners have already died at Goldfields this year.
