On Friday evening four unknown armed men entered the premises of a chain store in Broadway Street, Strand. They allegedly threatened four cashiers with fire arms and took money from the cash registers.

As they fled the scene they came across an unarmed security guard at the entrance, who came to investigate. One of the suspects allegedly fired a single shot at the guard, wounding him in the head.

“The 36-year-old security guard who resides in the Strand is currently in a critical condition in hospital,” says Inspector Bernadine Steyn.

Steyn adds that the four suspects walked to a nearby fisheries and allegedly threatened the 41 year old owner with a firearm during which he was assaulted with a piece of wood.

“They took an undisclosed amount of money from the cash register and fled the scene by foot,” says Steyn.

The suspects are still at large and anyone with information can contact the investigating officer, Inspector Lionel Farmer at the Strand Police Station on (021) 854 9113.
