As the 2010 Soccer World Cup nears, the Transport department will implement a transport command and call centre in March.
The command centre will ensure that transport is efficiently co-ordinated during the tournament.
Transport Minister Sibusiso Ndebele is quoted as saying the centre will make sure South Africa provides “safe, efficient, reliable and affordable public transport”.
“The centre will enable the department of Transport to maintain overall command, control and co-ordination of transport operations around the country, including host cities and provinces,” said spokesperson to the Minister, Logan Maistry.
